Migrate

Migrate from GA4 without the drama

You do not need a big-bang cutover. Most teams install NudgeKit next to GA4, confirm the numbers they care about, turn on behavior features, then remove the GA tag once the new workflow sticks.

1. Create a site and install the tracker

Sign up for NudgeKit Analytics, add your website, and install the nudgekit-analytics package. Mount the Analytics component once in your root layout with your site ID — the same pattern documented on the product page.

  • Works cleanly with Next.js and React SPAs
  • Optional heatmaps and sessionReplay flags on the same component
  • No separate tag manager required for the basic setup

2. Run GA4 and NudgeKit side by side

Leave GA4 in place for a short overlap. Compare visitors, top pages, and top referrers on the same date range. Expect small differences — different bots filtering, attribution, and privacy models — not identical row-level parity.

3. Map the reports you actually use

Most migrations only need a short list. In NudgeKit, that typically maps to live visitors, pages, referrers/UTMs, countries, devices, conversion funnels, and (if enabled) heatmaps, scroll reach, and masked recordings.

  • Traffic & pages → Visitors, pageviews, top pages
  • Acquisition → Referrers and campaigns
  • Tech → Devices, browsers, OS
  • Behavior → Heatmaps, scroll funnels, event stream, recordings

4. Enable behavior when you are ready

Turn on heatmaps for click and scroll insight. Enable sessionReplay with a sample rate that matches your traffic and privacy policy. Inputs and sensitive fields stay masked; each recording is capped at 30 minutes.

5. Retire GA tags and update privacy copy

When NudgeKit is your source of truth, remove gtag / GTM GA4 tags and update your privacy policy to describe the new analytics. There is no automatic GA history import — treat the switch as a clean start for metrics while you keep GA exports if you need archives.

FAQ

Will my GA4 history appear in NudgeKit?+

No. We do not import GA4 history. Keep a GA export or BigQuery archive if you need old data, and start fresh collection in NudgeKit from install day.

How long should I dual-run both tools?+

A few days to two weeks is enough for most sites. Use the overlap to sanity-check top pages and referrers, not to chase perfect session matching.

What about ecommerce and ads conversion imports?+

NudgeKit focuses on website analytics and on-page behavior. If you depend on Google Ads auto-import or GA ecommerce templates, keep those workflows separate or evaluate them before a full cutover.
